At the start of the New Year I wrote down 10 things that I wanted to try to accomplish this year. Yeah, I know, 10 is a lot to commit to but that's who I am, and if you don't try, you'll never know, right?
So now that the year is half over, (wow) I thought, it's time to check in on myself and see how I have been doing towards my goals. So below is my report card, and please feel free to comment and tell me how you are doing on your resolutions so far.
In 2013 I will do the following to improve my life:
1) Lower my A1C. Grade: A
Well I started the year with my A1C at 11 and in April it was down to 8! This is a dramatic improvement that took lots of work and monitoring. Now I'm working to get it down to 7 - that's the ideal number to have.
If you don't know what A1C is, it's a test for diabetics to see how their blood glucose has been over the last two to three months. The A1C test measures what percentage of your hemoglobin — a protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen — is coated with sugar. The higher your A1C level, the poorer your blood sugar control and the higher your risk of diabetes complications. So I am happy to say that I am well on my way with this most important goal!
2) Make and keep all health appointments. Grade: A
This goal was not only for myself, but since I care for Chris, it was for him as well. I am happy to say that I am also on track with this goal, going to the docs, and have appointments made for over the summer!
3) Work reasonable hours and not check email before bed. Grade: B
Hey - I am definitely doing well with this goal because I took control of my work life. I'm working to get my business off the ground but I'm no longer killing myself for someone else. I love being my own boss. Even though it's trading some stresses for other stresses, I control my life and I can see what is coming down the road ahead of me. I do still check email before bed now and then but I not like I was at the beginning of the year when I was stressed out because of work.
4) Drink less coffee. Grade: B
Ok well, this one was tough because I do love my coffee, and I did cut down on the amount of coffee that I drink, but I'm still drinking a lot. Hey it's summer and I love my iced coffee! I did cut back by about a cup in the morning though.
5) Run/jog regularly when the weather improves. Grade: F
I have to give myself an F here - I have not gotten out and starting to run again. I think about it every day but have not done it. I WILL DO IT - I have not given up on this goal. I did start working out again but no running. Ok - when the humidity dies down a bit, I'll go for a run!
6) Do more with Chris. Grade: B
I am trying to do much more with Chris, summer has just started and I look forward to bringing him to the Cape, in fact we have already gone once. Because I need help to get him to places, it's no easy task but we will definitely be doing more. More to come!
7) Save more $ than last year. Grade: C
Saying that I want to say more than last year is easy - and this battles continues.
8) Start pencil drawing again Grade: Incomplete!
Gotta give myself an Incomplete on this one. I did one drawing and realized that I have become way to high energy to sit quietly and draw anymore. Sad, I know. I'm moving and busy all the time so I've decided to take this one of the Resolution list.
9) Return to photography again Grade: A
I have picked up my camera again and have started taking more pics as you can see here I'll continue with my nature photography, got the passion back! Check out my images on the site and order prints if you like.
10) Meditate/pray more Grade: Needs improvement!
Hmm, what to say here. I often ask myself if it's even worthwhile to pray - I shouldn't put praying and meditating together because they are different. I'm trying, that's all I can say. I think I may have to take this one off the list - but not yet.
Got resolutions? Tell me how you are doing with them!
It's me, just trying to get by.
